INFASHIONITY had the great honor to attend the Burberry Prorsum spring summer 16 menswear runway show in London last june. A-list celebrities filled the stunning location in the middle of Kensigton Gardens on a beautiful sunny day while a live orchestra conducted the march of models wearing traditional Burberry garments with a twist. A memorable experience.
ENTER THE ENCHANTING GARDEN
The Burberry team must have been praying for weeks in order to have such a gorgeous weather on show day.
After a walk through Kensington Gardens, one discovered the glass tent under which models would soon present the new collection. On the far-right side, a magistral set-up would soon gave center stage to a full live orchestra.
LACED
The magical set up revealed a romantic collection.
After a few “traditional” first looks, a striking element came as a new adjective in the usual Burberry vocabulary. Creative director Christopher Bailey introduced lace as a key fabric for the new season. Whether in small touches, such as decoration on the collar of a classic coat, or full lace shirts, and even a full-length white trench coat.
A daring, delicate and romantic new twist for the brand, as well as a more feminine approach to menswear. For the first time, the show indeed featured some women’s looks, including colorful lace dresses, from the ss16 pre-collection.
As we will soon find out in other upcoming show reviews, Burberry wasn’t the only brand this season to walk the gender-blending path. While perhaps difficult to wear in a total look, I thought that Burberry offered nice options in order to introduce delicate touches on more masculine pieces.
CRAFTMANSHIP AND ROMANTIC ACCESORIZING
Long scarves casually tied around the neck. The styling contributed to the romantic feel of the collection. Burberry’s craftmanship was in display thanks to pieces such as an incredible evening jacket adorned with studs and embroidery. A real show stopper. The color palette was either classic black and white or warm tones of camel, olive green, with pops of yellow or turquoise.
A STAR-STUDDED LIVE PERFORMANCE
The crowd was filled with A-list celebrities who enjoyed the show as well as the live performance by british artist “Rhodes”. Accompanied by the full orchestra, he performed emotional tracks that were then exclusively released on iTunes. Discovering the looks as the singer’s haunting voice resonated in the glass bubble was certainly an unforgettable experience. Models walking down the runway passed by none other than Samuel L.Jackson, Model Suki Waterhouse as well as official London Collections Men’s ambassadors Lewis Hamilton and chinese actor & model Hu Bing.
Mixing traditional and innovative looks, Burberry proved its leading role in the menswear world and definitely provided a collection to speak about. The live experience, whether on the spot or through digital channels was absolutely unique.
In the following post, discover the outfit I wore on that special day. A gold look to match the invitation with a touch of check motif. Of course.
On that note, leaving you with a taste of what I experienced with this video of Rhodes’ live performance during the show.
InfasHionably yours,
H
